In the Harry Potter universe, a Squib is a non-magical person who is born to at least one magical parent. They are essentially "wizard-born Muggles". Squibs are rare and are looked upon with disdain by magical folk, especially pure-bloods. They are often treated as outcasts and are considered to be inferior to wizards and witches. Squibs have extensive knowledge of the Wizarding World but lack magical abilities. They can play important roles in the story, such as Mrs. Figg, who was personally tasked by Dumbledore to keep an eye on Harry Potter without revealing her identity to him. Squibs are born to Wizarding parents but show no signs of magical ability. If such a child shows no signs of magical ability by the age of seven, it is highly likely that they are a Squib. Squibs are rare, and late-bloomers, i.e., wizards/witches whose magical abilities do not manifest until adolescence or adulthood, are even rarer.
