In algebra, a term is either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. Terms are separated by + or − signs, or sometimes by divide. An algebraic expression is made up of terms, and a term can be a constant or a variable, or variables with coefficients. A coefficient is a number used to multiply a variable. Variables on their own (without a number next to them) actually have a coefficient of 1. There are two kinds of terms in algebra: like terms and unlike terms. Like terms are terms whose variables and exponent power are the same, and they can be simplified by combining them.
