A trike, sometimes abbreviated to tricycle, is a three-wheeled vehicle. There are different types of trikes, including human-powered, gasoline or electric motor powered or assisted, or gravity powered. Here are some of the different types of trikes:

  • Upright Trikes: These resemble a two-wheeled bicycle, traditionally diamond frame, or open frame, but with either two widely spaced wheels at the back (called delta) or two wheels at the front (called tadpole). The rider straddles the frame in both delta and tadpole configurations. Steering is through a handlebar directly connected to the front wheel via a conventional bicycle fork in delta, or via a form of Ackermann steering geometry in the case of the upright tadpole.

  • Recumbent Trikes: These are designed with a reclined seat for an ergonomic pedaling position. They can be either a delta (two rear wheels) or tadpole (two front wheels) setup and are optimal for comfort.

  • Cycle Rickshaws: These are used for commercial passenger transport. The passenger sits in the rear while the operator pedals from the front. They are useful for urban settings.

  • Freight Trikes: These are equipped with a large front or rear cargo area and heavy-duty components. They allow for transporting goods and merchandise.

  • Drift Trikes: These are modified for stunt riding with slick rear wheels that can slide. They are made for adrenaline thrill-seekers.

Trikes can also be used for recreational purposes, such as a three-wheeled motorcycle. They offer a unique riding experience and can be more comfortable than traditional motorcycles, especially for individuals who are a little out of shape or suffering from chronic pain issues. Trikes can usually accommodate two passengers, and they offer plenty of storage space for long trips. Childrens trikes are also popular toys for children between the ages of eighteen months and five years.
