A VGA cable is a type of computer cable that carries visual display data from the CPU to the monitor. It is mainly used to connect computers and laptops with screens and monitors, although you may also find this connection type on older AV equipment. The standard 15-pin D-Sub connector is common on many computers, and therefore you can use VGA male-to-male cables to send a computer image to your TV screen. VGA connections usually receive an analog RGB signal from a device, and VGA supports standard and high-definition resolutions. However, a VGA cable does not transmit audio signals, so a separate audio connection will be required to hear any audio. The same VGA cable can be used with a variety of supported VGA resolutions, ranging from 320×400px @70 Hz, or 320×480px @60 Hz to 1280×1024px (SXGA) @85 Hz and up to 2048×1536px (QXGA) @85 Hz. Because VGA uses low-voltage analog signals, signal degradation becomes a factor with low-quality or overly long cables. Solutions include shielded cables, cables that include a separate internal coaxial cable for each color signal, and "broken out" cables utilizing a separate coaxial cable with a BNC connector for each color signal.
