A WETT (Wood Energy Technology Transfer) inspection is a thorough inspection of all wood-burning appliances, such as stoves and open fireplaces, by a certified WETT inspector. The inspection is designed to ensure that the wood-burning appliance is installed correctly and complies with building codes and regulations. A WETT inspection includes a detailed look at the chimney, an evaluation of the liner and flue, a smoke chamber check, an inspection of the damper, a close appraisal of the firebox, a superficial and structural look at the hearth or floor around the appliance, and a general inspection of the surrounding area. The inspection is necessary when buying or selling a home, living in a home, and can also be a requirement when securing insurance. A WETT specialty inspection is an inspection that must be conducted by an inspector who is WETT certified. There are three levels of WETT inspections, with Level 1 being the most basic and Level 3 being the most comprehensive.
