Whoppers are a type of candy that consists of malted milk balls with an artificial flavored "chocolatey coating" produced by The Hershey Company. They were first introduced in the US as "Giants" in 1939 by the Overland Candy Company, which was later merged with other companies and eventually renamed the product as Whoppers in 1949. The candy is a small, round ball about 3/4 inch in diameter and is available in different packaging, including a small cardboard candy box, a larger box that resembles a cardboard milk carton, and a tube-shaped plastic package sealed at the sides that contains twelve Whoppers weighing 21 grams (0.74 ounces). Whoppers are made of a crunchy malted milk center covered with a creamy chocolaty coating. The recipe for malted milk, which is the main ingredient of Whoppers, was developed in the 1870s as a baby formula and consists of evaporated milk, processed barley, and wheat flour. The candy has been owned by Hershey Foods Corporation since 1996. Whoppers come in different flavors, including original chocolate, strawberry milkshake, and Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.
