A wine expert is commonly called a sommelier. A sommelier is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing. They work in fine restaurants and may be responsible for developing wine lists and books, delivering wine service and training for other restaurant staff, and pairing and suggesting wines that will best complement each particular food menu item. In addition to sommeliers, there are other specialized beverage service roles that take on the term "sommelier," such as beer sommelier, water sommelier, coffee sommelier, milk sommelier, and sake sommelier.
