An AAAA record is a DNS record that maps a domain name to an IPv6 address. It is conceptually similar to an A record, which maps a domain name to an IPv4 address. The AAAA record is used to find the IP address of a computer connected to the internet from a name. The name "AAAA" stands for "quad A" and is a reference to the fact that an IPv6 address is four times the size of an IPv4 address. The AAAA record is less common than the A record, but its popularity is rising along with the increased adoption of IPv6 addresses. If a server uses IPv6, an AAAA record is required to ensure that a website or online resource can be accessed using IPv6 addresses. It is possible to have both an A and AAAA record for the same domain.
