Absconding in the UAE refers to an employee who does not report to work and fails to give notice that they have left their job. The UAE Labor Law states that a worker is considered to have absconded if they fail to report to work for more than a week (7 days) without a valid reason. If an employer files an absconding complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and it is confirmed that the employee was absconding from work, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs or Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security may conduct an investigation and deport the employee from the UAE. An employee with an absconding case against them will be unable to enter the UAE or secure employment in the country during the ban period, which is usually one year from the date of the absence from work. However, absconding bans are not permanent, although someone who receives more than one could find that they end up with a permanent ban.
