ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, which are technological features designed to increase the safety of driving a vehicle. ADAS uses automated technology, such as sensors and cameras, to detect nearby obstacles or driver errors and respond accordingly. The role of ADAS is to prevent deaths and injuries by reducing the number of car accidents and the serious impact of those that cannot be avoided.
ADAS can enable various levels of autonomous driving. These systems increase safety and reaction times to potential dangers through early warning and automated systems. Some of these systems are built standard to certain vehicles, while aftermarket features and even entire systems are available to add at a later date to personalize the vehicle to the driver.
ADAS features include:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Forward collision warning
- Lane departure warning
- Blind-spot monitor
- Automatic emergency braking
- Pedestrian detection
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Parking assist
Most new cars today incorporate some measure of ADAS features, and many of those are supported by Mobileye technology.
