The albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio is a blood test that measures the total amount of protein in your blood and compares the amount of albumin to the amount of globulin. The normal ratio is always more than 1, and a ratio of 1.1–2.5 is considered normal. A low A/G ratio could indicate low albumin levels, which may be a sign of autoimmune disorder, kidney disease, or cirrhosis. A high A/G ratio could indicate disease in the liver, kidney, or intestines, and it is also linked to low thyroid activity and leukemia. If your total protein levels or A/G ratio results are not normal, it can be a sign of a serious health problem. The A/G ratio test is often used to assess the severity of disease progression and to monitor recovery.
