Agritourism is a form of commercial enterprise that links agricultural production and/or processing with tourism to attract visitors onto a farm, ranch, or other agricultural business for the purposes of entertaining or educating the visitors while generating income for the farm, ranch, or business owner. It involves any agriculturally based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch. Agritourism activities can be classified into one or more categories, including direct-to-consumer sales (e.g., farm stands, u-pick), agricultural education (e.g., school visits to a farm), hospitality (overnight farm stays), recreation (e.g., hunting, horseback riding), and entertainment (e.g., hayrides, harvest dinners). Some examples of agritourism activities include on-farm sales of agricultural products, educational tourism, entertainment, accommodations, and outdoor recreation. The economic boost by the increase in traffic can be beneficial to rural areas in need of diversified streams of income.
