AirSculpt is a minimally invasive fat removal procedure that uses cutting-edge technology for body contouring. It is a patented procedure developed by Beverly Hills-based celebrity plastic surgeon Aaron Rollins in 2012. AirSculpt plucks fat through a freckle-sized hole with a small tool and no anesthesia, although patients are given an oral sedative to help them relax as they stay awake during the procedure. The procedure is described as not using scalpels or knives, implying it is somehow more gentle than liposuction. In fact, instead of a scalpel, which is used to make a tiny incision in liposuction, an instrument called a trocar is used to stab a hole through the skin. The procedure dramatically tightens skin and improves laxity in treated areas with a unique plasma derived by combining helium gas and radiofrequency energy. AirSculpt is considered safe in the hands of an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. The fat cells remain viable for fat transfer to other body areas, and its commonly performed in combination with other plastic surgery procedures. The vibrations of the AirSculpt cannula also generate frictional heat, providing mild skin tightening benefits. AirSculpt treatments offer mild skin tightening, but its not usually enough to make a significant difference in treating lax skin. AirSculpt is more expensive than traditional liposuction, but it permanently removes fat cells, so results should be very long-lasting.
