An AMBER alert is a type of emergency notification service that lets citizens know when police are tracking a missing person and there is information that this person may be in their area. Apple has included AMBER alert notifications, as well as other emergency government notifications like Emergency Alerts and Public Safety Alerts, on all iPhones by default. These alerts can be shocking, especially if they happen when youre sleeping, driving, or otherwise not expecting a loud noise to come from your iPhone. However, they work at your discretion, and you can decide which alerts you want to keep on or turn off. Heres how to control AMBER and government alerts on your iPhone:
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap on Notifications and scroll all the way to the bottom.
- Under the Government Alerts section, you can toggle AMBER Alerts on or off.
Its important to note that turning off AMBER alerts will limit your ability to help authorities recover abducted individuals. If you want to turn off other emergency alerts, except for Presidential alerts, you can follow the steps outlined in this article.
