It represents over 350 American television and film production companies in collective bargaining negotiations with entertainment industry trade unions that include, among others, SAG-AFTRA, the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America West and East, the American Federation of Musicians, and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Since 1982, the AMPTP has been the trade association responsible for negotiating virtually all industry-wide guild and union contracts, including those with American Federation of Musicians (AFM), Directors Guild of America (DGA), International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Laborers Local 724, Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), Teamsters, Local #399, and Writers Guild of America (WGA) among others. The AMPTP negotiates 80 industry-wide collective bargaining agreements on behalf of over 350 motion picture and television producers. The AMPTPs goal is to maximize the bottom lines of its member companies, which include the major motion picture studios, the principal broadcast television networks, streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+, and Amazon, certain cable television networks, and independent producers.
