The Amrit Kalash Yatra is a part of the Meri Maati Mera Desh campaign launched by the Government of India under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. It is a nationwide campaign that encourages people from each district and village to take part in the yatra by collecting soil and rice grains from their respective areas in an Amrit Kalash. The collected soil and rice grains are then sent to the block level, where the soil of all villages in the block is mixed, and then to the state capital. From there, the Amrit Kalash travels to the capital city of the respective state or union territory. The Amrit Kalash from across the country is transported to Delhi for the culmination of the campaign.
On October 30, 2023, the Amrit Kalash Yatra witnessed all the states and union territories represented by their respective blocks and Urban Local bodies putting mitti from their Kalash in one giant Amrit Kalash in the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ . On October 31, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed thousands of Amrit Kalash Yatris joining the programme from across the country. The programme also marked the closing ceremony of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, and the Prime Minister inaugurated the Amrit Vatika and Amrit Mahotsav Memorial during the programme. The Amrit Vatika and Amrit Mahotsav Memorial are built at Kartavya Path from the soil collected from every part of the country. The Amrit Kalash Yatra is a way to connect people to Indias future and to promote the spirit of unity and brotherhood among the people of the country.
