The term "Aggie" is used as the official mascot for two different universities: North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Texas A&M University. Here is a breakdown of each universitys Aggie mascot:
-
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University: The Aggie is sometimes referred to as the Aggie Dawg or Aggie Dog and is the official mascot of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, a historically black college in Greensboro, North Carolina. Although the physical representation of the athletic teams is a bulldog, the term "Aggie" has a historical connection to the universitys agricultural roots as a land grant university. The earliest known mascot at A&T dates back to the late 1970s, and there have been 12 official Aggie dogs in the schools history, with the first making his appearance in the fall of 1984).
-
Texas A&M University: Reveille is known as the First Lady of Aggieland and is Texas A&Ms official mascot. Reveille is a Rough Collie and has been the official mascot of Texas A&M since 1931. The first Reveille came to campus in 1931, and since then, there have been several other Reveilles. The most current Reveille is Reveille X, who assumed her mascot duties in May 2021. Reveille is cared for by a Mascot Corporal, a sophomore cadet in Company E-2, and lives with the cadet for that year; she goes to class with him or her, out on dates, and even home for the holidays.
Therefore, an Aggie mascot can refer to either the North Carolina A&T Aggie Dawg or the Texas A&M Reveille.
