An Aggie is a student at Texas A&M University. The term "Aggie" began to be used in the 1920s, and in 1949, when the yearbook changed its name from The Longhorn to Aggieland, Aggie became the official student body nickname. Texas A&M University is located in College Station, Texas. The university was originally called Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University (TAMU), but today the letters no longer explicitly stand for anything. The official school colors are maroon and white. The mascot is a rough collie named Reveille. The sports teams are referred to as the Texas A&M Aggies or simply "A&M". The Aggies compete in Division I of the NCAA and are members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Texas A&M sponsors 20 varsity programs, including nine mens and eleven womens sports. The university has a rich tradition and unique culture, including the Corps of Cadets, the 12th Man, and Midnight Yell.
