Ambassadors are usually accredited to a foreign government or sovereign, and are responsible for negotiating treaties, disseminating information, and maintaining peaceful relations with other states. They are also responsible for directing and coordinating all executive branch offices and personnel, except for those under the command of a U.S. area military commander or under another chief of mission.
