An e-portfolio, short for electronic portfolio, is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually but not only on the Web. It is a purposeful collection of sample student work, demonstrations, and artifacts that showcase a students learning progression, achievement, and growth over time. E-portfolios can include input text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog entries, and hyperlinks. They are used in education to document skills and learning, and can be used to advance learning by providing a way for students to organize, archive, and display their work. E-portfolios can also function as a tool for faculty to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, and to collectively examine student achievement for program improvement. E-portfolios have six major functions in education, which include documenting skills and learning, facilitating learning, showcasing achievement, providing a way for students to organize, archive, and display work, monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, and collectively examining student achievement for program improvement.
