An electronic cigarette, also known as an e-cigarette or vape, is a device that simulates tobacco smoking. It consists of an atomizer, a power source such as a battery, and a container such as a cartridge or tank filled with liquid. Instead of smoke, the user inhales vapor. The liquid solution, also known as e-liquid or e-juice, typically contains varying amounts of nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. Some e-cigarettes are made to look like regular cigarettes, cigars, or pipes, while others resemble pens, USB sticks, and other everyday items. When the e-liquid heats up, more toxic chemicals are formed. E-cigarettes are sometimes marketed to young people with bright colors and fruit, candy, alcohol, or other flavors that they find attractive and interesting. The long-term effects of e-cigarette use are unknown, and there is no evidence that e-cigarettes are safer than tobacco in the long term.
