An ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor, also known as an otolaryngologist, is a healthcare specialist who diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the head, neck, ears, nose, and throat. They are trained to offer both nonsurgical and surgical treatments. Some of the conditions that ENTs treat include:

  • Chronic ear infections
  • Hearing loss
  • Tonsillitis
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • Sinus issues
  • Sleep apnea
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Skin disorders
  • Vocal problems
  • Swallowing issues
  • Balance problems
  • Reconstructive surgery
  • Cosmetic surgery

ENTs must first complete an undergraduate degree, followed by four years of medical school and a five-year residency program. Some ENTs choose to specialize further in areas like neurology, sleep medicine, pediatrics, allergies, and cancers of the head and neck. ENTs are also trained to work with audiologists to diagnose and treat hearing loss. If you have any issues with your ears, nose, or throat, or any other conditions affecting your head and neck region, you may want to see an ENT specialist.
