F1 Sprint Shootout is a new session added to the F1 Sprint race weekends in 2023. It is a standalone qualifying session for the sprint race and takes place on Saturday morning instead of a second practice session. The Sprint Shootout follows the same three-session knockout format as usual qualifying, but each Q1, Q2, and Q3 segment has been shortened to 12 minutes, 10 minutes, and 5 minutes, respectively. During the Sprint Shootout, drivers have to use certain tires in certain sessions. In SQ1 and SQ2, medium tires must be used by all drivers, while soft tires will be used in SQ3. All tires used in the Sprint Shootout must be new sets. The results of the Sprint Shootout will set the grid for the sprint race itself, which is a much shortened version of the grand prix, covering 100km of the circuit hosting the event. The top eight drivers score points in the sprint race, with the driver who finishes P1 receiving eight points.
