An F1 visa is a type of non-immigrant student visa that allows foreigners to pursue education (academic studies and/or language training programs) in the United States. The F1 visa is the most popular type of student visa for students seeking to study at a US university or college. To be eligible for an F1 visa, the following requirements must be met:
- The applicant must be enrolled in an "academic" educational program, a language-training program, or a vocational program.
- The applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at a SEVP-approved school in the United States.
- The applicant must be proficient in English or be enrolled in courses leading to English proficiency.
- The applicant must have sufficient funds available for self-support during the entire proposed course of study.
- The applicant must maintain a residence abroad which they have no intention of giving up.
The F1 visa process starts when the applicant gets accepted to a SEVP-certified US university. Once accepted, the university will provide the applicant with an I-20 form, which documents their study plans and provides supporting information about their stay. The applicant must then complete their student visa application and attend their visa interview with confidence. During the interview, the US consulate or embassy confirms that the applicant is coming to study as a legitimate, serious student, and that they have the funds to cover their time studying in the US. If the applicants F1 visa application is denied, they will be given detailed information about why it was denied.
