An interim service is a type of car service that is less comprehensive than a full service and is designed to be carried out every six months or every 5,000-6,000 miles. It is a minor type of service compared to a full service that you should get every year. The checks and changes focus on everyday driving, and the aim is to keep the car running smoothly. An interim service is recommended for vehicles that are used for shorter journeys, and it helps to address any issues early on that may be caused by driving more miles than average. An interim service typically includes component and system checks and adjustments, such as a vehicle safety inspection, engine oil and filter change, fluid check, and top-up of brake fluid, screen wash, and antifreeze coolant. The technician will also check the battery, lights, and tires, among other things. The duration of an interim service is around 90 minutes. It is not a legal requirement to have an interim service, but it is strongly recommended if you drive in excess of 12,000 miles a year. Most car warranties also require full and interim services according to their schedule, otherwise, it may become void.
