An iPod is a portable media player and multi-purpose mobile device produced by Apple Inc. . It was first released on October 23, 2001, and was the first MP3 player to pack a mind-blowing 1,000 songs and a 10-hour battery into a pocket-sized device. The iPod can store several thousand songs, depending on the model, and most models can play video, store images, and run apps. The various iPod models include:

  • iPod Touch: a full-function version with touchable screen controls and up to 64GB of space for music, photographs, apps, and video.
  • iPod Shuffle: a tiny, lightweight clip-and-go model with no screen and just 2GB of space.
  • iPod Nano: a lightweight iPod with touch-screen controls and up to 16GB of space for audio files.
  • iPod Classic: with up to 160GB of hard-drive storage space, plus the familiar click wheel control.

The iPod brand is the oldest to be discontinued by Apple, with the product line being discontinued on May 10, 2022. However, the iPod Touch will still be available while supplies last. The iPods content is managed using Apples proprietary software called iTunes, which can be used to transfer music, photos, videos, games, contact information, e-mail settings, web bookmarks, and calendars to the devices supporting these features from computers using certain versions of Apple macOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The iPod Touch has FaceTime enabled, a video-calling facility between iPod Touches and various other Apple products such as the iPad range.
