An RRT is a Registered Respiratory Therapist, which is the highest level of credential that a respiratory therapist can earn. To become an RRT, one must complete an accredited respiratory therapy program, pass the Therapist Multiple-Choice (TMC) exam, and pass the Clinical Sims Exam (CSE) . RRTs typically earn more than entry-level Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRTs) . Respiratory therapists are specialized healthcare professionals who help treat patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. They work closely with physicians and nurses to assess, diagnose, and treat patients who have difficulty breathing. RTs should be detail-oriented, patient, compassionate, and possess stellar interpersonal skills as they interact with vulnerable patients who often need as much genuine comfort as they do medical treatment.
