An SUV, or Sports Utility Vehicle, is a type of car that combines elements of road-going passenger cars with features from off-road vehicles, such as raised ground clearance and four-wheel drive. The term SUV is a loose term that traditionally covers a broad range of vehicles with four-wheel drive that can be taken off-road and have the feel of a lighter truck. SUVs can come in any size – small, midsize or large. They are designed to offer elegant city driving but also handle rugged terrain thanks to a typical 4x4 capability. SUVs combine the interior space of a minivan with a pickup trucks towing capacity and off-road attitude. They give their owners flexibility in transporting, with large interior spaces and two or three rows of seating. While the term SUV can be applied to larger vehicles, such as the Range Rover, Chevrolet Suburban, and Jeep-like SUVs, it can also apply to smaller vehicles that dont have four-wheel drive and have a minimal capability of going off-road like the Honda CRV and crossover SUVs. The lines are blurry between wagons and SUVs, and some definitions claim that an SUV must be built on a light truck chassis; however, broader definitions consider any vehicle with off-road design features to be an SUV.
