Android Auto is a mobile app developed by Google that allows you to mirror the experience of using an Android device on your cars dashboard information and entertainment unit. It is designed to make it easier to use apps that you love from your phone while you’re on the road, and it brings your favorite music, media, and messaging apps to your cars dashboard. Once an Android device is paired with your car, you can access certain Android apps via your vehicles touchscreen display and dashboard.
Android Auto can be used in two ways in the car. You can connect your phone to your car with a USB cable and see Android Auto on your car display. Some phones and cars can connect wirelessly, but you should check the compatible phone list and check with your car manufacturer to see if your car has this capability. Android Auto allows drivers to control many common phone apps through voice commands or their car’s touchscreen. Google Assistant is the voice recognition interface for Android Auto, and you can activate it by simply saying “Hey, Google,” followed by the command you want to execute.
To use Android Auto, you’ll need a phone running Android 6.0 or higher and an active data connection. Android Auto is currently available in many countries, and over 400 car models now support it. If you have Android 9 or below, you can get the Android Auto app on your phone. With Android 10, Android Auto is built-in, so you don’t need the app to get started.
