Holland is another name for the region of the Netherlands that is made up of two provinces, Noord Holland and Zuid Holland. Historically, Holland was the dominant region of the Netherlands, and the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague are located in this region. However, Holland is not the official name for the country, and using it to refer to the whole country can be considered misrepresentative by some Dutch people, particularly those from regions outside Holland or the west. The official name for the country is the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
