AP Seminar is a course offered by the College Board that engages students in cross-curricular conversations that explore the complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues by analyzing divergent perspectives. The course is designed to help students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and academic research skills on topics of their choosing. AP Seminar is part of the AP Capstone Program, which consists of two sections: AP Seminar and AP Research. The course is divided into five big ideas: Question and Explore, Understand and Analyze, Evaluate Multiple Perspectives, Synthesize Ideas, and Team, Transform, and Transmit. Students learn to investigate a problem or issue, analyze arguments, compare different perspectives, synthesize information from multiple sources, and work alone and in a group to communicate their ideas. There are no prerequisite courses for the AP Seminar course. The course is graded based on participation, individual research reports, individual written arguments, and group presentations. AP Seminar is a foundational course that prepares students for college-level research and presentations.
