Anti-reflective coating (AR coating) is a coating for glasses lenses that decreases reflective light. It reduces the amount of reflective light in your lenses, allowing more light to pass through the glasses lens rather than bounce off of it. This means that you’ll have little to no reflections on the front or back surfaces of your lenses. AR coating is applied to the back, front, or both sides of your lenses to control the amount of light that enters your eyes. It eliminates almost all reflections from the surfaces of your lenses, which can increase your vision. AR coating is especially beneficial when used on high-index lenses, which reflect more light than regular plastic lenses. The benefits of AR coating include:
- Reducing bothersome reflections, glare, and halos
- Improving your vision by allowing more light to reach your eyes, improving visual acuity
- Providing comfort during prolonged computer use
- Enhancing the clarity and comfort of photochromic lenses in all light conditions without reducing their sun-reactive performance
- Making your eyeglasses look more attractive by drawing more attention to your eyes and helping you make better eye contact with others
AR coating is especially helpful if you have difficulty seeing while driving at night, spend a lot of time looking at screens or digital devices, are often bothered by reflections when wearing glasses, or are interested in thinner looking lenses. However, AR coating is more expensive than regular eyeglasses.
