Arabian Nights, also known as One Thousand and One Nights, is a collection of Middle Eastern folktales compiled in the Arabic language during the Islamic Golden Age. The tales come in a wide variety of genres, including fables, adventures, mysteries, love-stories, dramas, comedies, tragedies, horror stories, poems, burlesque, and erotica. Some of the most famous stories include "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp," "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," and "The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor". The tales are connected by a central story that acts as a frame for the whole collection. In the frame story, a girl named Scheherazade tells stories to a sultan every night but stops just when she reaches the most interesting part. If he wants to hear the rest, he has to let her live another night. Scheherazade keeps telling him stories in this manner for a thousand and one nights. The Arabian Nights have influenced literature, music, art, and cinema, and continue to do so until our present day.
