Arabica coffee is a type of coffee that comes from the Coffea arabica plant, which is believed to be the first species of coffee to have been cultivated and is currently the dominant cultivar, representing about 60% of global production. Arabica coffee is the worlds most popular coffee type, equating to over 60% of cups drank. It is usually cultivated at an altitude between 1,300 and 1,500 m (4,300 and 4,900 ft), but there are plantations that grow it as low as sea level and as high as 2,800 m (9,200 ft) . Arabica coffee is known for its delicate, diverse, and dynamic flavors, ranging from chocolate and nuts to fruit, florals, herbs, spices, and more. It grows best at higher elevations (900-ish meters above sea level and higher) and tends to be somewhat picky about soil nutrition, climate patterns, pruning, and more. Arabica coffee is used to produce gourmet coffees, which are almost exclusively high-quality mild varieties of arabica coffee. Some of the best-known arabica coffee beans in the world are those from Jamaican Blue Mountain, Colombian Supremo, Tarrazú, Costa Rica, Guatemalan Antigua, and Ethiopian Sidamo.
