Aromanticism is a romantic orientation characterized by experiencing little to no romantic attraction. The term "aromantic", colloquially shortened to "aro", refers to a person whose romantic orientation is aromanticism. Aromanticism is defined as "having little or no romantic feeling towards others: experiencing little or no romantic desire or attraction". Aromantic people may or may not feel sexual attraction. They can fall into one of two groups: aromantic sexual people or aromantic. Aromanticism has to do with romantic attraction, and asexuality has to do with sexual attraction. Romantic orientation and sexual orientation are two different concepts. An aromantic persons sexual orientation doesnt make them less or more of a valid member of the aromantic community. Aromantic people can still love their friends, family, children, pets, and their partners. Other aromantic people may be part of queerplatonic relationships. These connections are strong and emotionally intimate, but not romantic or ambiguously romantic in nature.
