ASP stands for "assistant superintendent of police". It is a rank that was used by police forces in the British Empire and is still used in many police forces in the Commonwealth. In India, the officer holding this rank is from the Indian Police Service, and all IPS officers start their career as Assistant Superintendent of Police. However, assistant superintendent of police is a probationary rank (till the second year of the career of an IPS officer) and is worn by officers when under training at SVPNPA. In Pakistan, an assistant superintendent of police is selected through the Central Superior Services examination and is the entry-level rank of the Police Service of Pakistan. In Sri Lanka, the rank of assistant superintendent of police (ASP) is a senior gazetted officer in the Sri Lanka police, and generally, an ASP would be in command of a group of police stations in a police division.

ASP can also refer to Armament Systems and Procedures, Inc., a US defensive compliance weapons manufacturer providing equipment to law enforcement and private security companies. ASP telescoping batons are widely used by law enforcement agencies worldwide. Since the early 1990s, ASP batons have been adopted by law enforcement agencies in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
