An assembly constituency is a constituency provided by law for the purpose of elections to the Legislative Assembly. It is a particular area that elects a representative to the Legislative Assembly. States are divided into segments called assembly constituencies to ensure proper governance. The body of voters or the residents of a district represented by an elective officer is called a constituency. The division of each state into assembly constituencies is made having regard to the total number of existing seats in each. Each member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is directly elected to serve 5-year terms by single-member constituencies.
