An assembly election is an election held to elect members to a legislative assembly, which is a group of people who meet regularly to make decisions or laws for a particular region or state. The legislative assembly is responsible for creating new laws, removing or improving existing laws, and addressing matters that affect all citizens living in that region or state. Assembly elections are different from general elections, which are held to elect members to the national parliament or congress. In the United States, assembly elections may refer to elections for state legislatures, such as the New York State Assembly. In universities, assembly elections may refer to elections held to elect representatives to the student assembly or other governing bodies.
