Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by differences in the brain. While there is no one single cause of autism, research suggests that it is a combination of developmental, genetic, and environmental factors. Here are some of the factors that may contribute to the development of autism:

• Genetics: Several different genes appear to be involved in autism spectrum disorder. Changes in certain genes increase the risk that a child will develop autism. If a parent carries one or more of these gene changes, they may get passed to a child (even if the parent does not have autism) . However, genetics only play a role in about 10-20% of cases.

• Environmental factors: Researchers are currently exploring whether factors such as viral infections, medications or complications during pregnancy, or air pollutants play a role in triggering autism spectrum disorder. Problems with a mother’s immune system, certain metabolic conditions, or inflammation during pregnancy may also be linked with higher autism risk for her children.

• Developmental factors: Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder, and some researchers believe that it may be caused by differences in brain development. However, the exact developmental factors that contribute to autism are not yet fully understood.

Its important to note that vaccines do not cause autism. While there is no cure for autism, early intervention services can greatly improve a child’s development.
