Subaru AVH stands for "Auto Vehicle Hold" and is a safety feature designed to keep your car steady on steep terrain. It was launched in 2018 on the Subaru WRX Limited and replaced the Hill Holder and Hill Start Assist features, as AVH is far more capable than either of those two features. AVH holds your car in place when it comes to a stop, even if your foot should leave the gas pedal, preventing accidents that can occur when a car rolls down hills or through a red light. The AVH button is located above the shifter in some Subaru models.
