Bad stress is commonly referred to as distress. Distress is a feeling of being overwhelmed, anxious, or worried due to challenging situations. It can arise when we feel like we are unable to cope with the demands of a situation. Distress can have negative effects on a persons physical and mental health. On the other hand, good stress is called eustress, which is a positive and motivating type of stress that enhances functioning. Eustress can provide energy, motivation, and focus needed to confront or solve a problem.
