BAMS stands for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery, which is an undergraduate degree program in Ayurveda and traditional healing and treatment process. The course is designed for students who want to build a career around Ayurveda and its usage in the cure, treatment, and analysis of health and its ailments. The course duration is 5.5 years, which includes 4.5 years of academic sessions and a one-year internship program with live projects. The BAMS syllabus incorporates the old Vedic knowledge of Ayurvedic techniques with modern medicines to cure various medical conditions. The course is divided into three sections, each section is taught for 1.5 years, and the sections are anatomy, physiology, and the history of the Ayurvedic system, biology and pharmacology, and surgery, ENT, skin, obstetrics, and gynecology. After the completion of the BAMS course, candidates can either opt for practicing or may pursue higher studies and specialize in a particular branch of Ayurveda.
