BCT stands for Basic Combat Training, which is the recruit training program of the United States Army, for service in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. It is also known as "boot camp" and is required of all new enlisted soldiers to create a strong foundation for their Army experience. BCT is a ten-week process which includes one week of reception, where trainees undergo a physical exam, vaccinations, haircut, uniform, and Army Physical Fitness Uniform. BCT is divided into four phases, each represented by a color: yellow, red, white, and blue for Phase I, II, III, and IV, respectively. Trainees are progressively allowed more responsibility, privileges, and independence each time they achieve a new phase of training. The final phase of BCT is the Blue, or Warrior, Phase, which will build individual tactical training, increase leadership skills and self-discipline, and improve understanding of teamwork. It also includes challenges and tests that trainees must pass to graduate from BCT.
