BharatQR is a QR-based payment solution developed by NPCI, Mastercard, and Visa in India. It was launched in September 2016 to facilitate Indias transition to a less-cash society. The system enables digital payments and reduces the usage of card machines for payment. BharatQR primarily works by scanning QR codes, but it also allows users to pay through Aadhaar number, UPI payment address, or through account number and IFSC code. The system supports Dynamic QR code generation, which eliminates the need to enter the amount for payment. BharatQR is secure, as card details are not exposed to any third party, and interoperable, as any app that supports BharatQR can be used to pay using cards (via Visa, MasterCard, Amex, or Rupay) or BHIM-UPI. There are no additional charges applied to customers for making payments via BharatQR. BharatQR is an alternate channel of payment, where users can download a BharatQR-enabled mobile banking app, scan the code at the shop, and select how they want to pay. Once the payment is successful, both the user and the merchant/seller will receive a notification for the successful transaction.
