Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have opened an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden after months of investigations of his son Hunter Bidens foreign business dealings. Republicans have accused Biden of profiting from his sons business dealings while serving as vice president between 2009 and 2017, but they have not found any evidence of misconduct by Biden himself. The White House says Biden has done nothing wrong and Republicans have no basis for an impeachment inquiry. The impeachment inquiry was launched in September 2023, without a vote, by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who forwarded the inquiry to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. The inquiry is based on several allegations, including that Biden pressured Ukraine to remove its top prosecutor while serving as vice president, and that he endangered the security of the United States and countering the will of Congress. However, to impeach Biden, the House would have to approve at least one impeachment charge against him, which requires a majority vote.
