"Black Magic Woman" is a song written by British musician Peter Green, which first appeared as a single for his band Fleetwood Mac in 1968. The song is about a mischievous woman who nearly makes the singer blind with her black magic tricks. The lyrics were inspired by Greens former girlfriend, Sandra Elsdon, who he had nicknamed "Magic Mamma". The song is a minor blues with a Latin rhythm first explored in Greens "I Loved Another Woman" in Fleetwood Macs 1968 self-titled debut album. Santana covered the song in 1970, and it became a hit, reaching No. 4 on the Hot 100. The songs enduring popularity is due in part to Carlos Santanas mystical solos and Gregg Rolies vocals.
