Brett Kavanaugh is an American lawyer and jurist who is currently serving as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President Donald Trump on July 9, 2018, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 6, 2018, replacing Justice Anthony Kennedy. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, Kavanaugh served for more than a dozen years on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He was confirmed as a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on May 26, 2006. Kavanaugh is known for his contentious confirmation hearings in 2018, during which he was accused of sexual assault. He has been described as the most hated Supreme Court Justice by some. Kavanaugh is also known for his conservative views and his role in casting key votes to eliminate constitutional abortion protections and expand gun rights. Additionally, Kavanaugh has written many First Amendment decisions while on the D.C. Circuit Court.
