Bucha is a city in Ukraines Kyiv Oblast, with a population of approximately 37,321. It serves as the administrative center of Bucha Raion and hosts the administration of Bucha urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Bucha Day is celebrated in the city between 11 and 13 September. There is a stadium in Bucha named Yuvileiny Stadium, where some matches were held in October 2016 for the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualification. There is also a glass factory in Bucha, built in 1946, which was closed in 2016. Additionally, there is a small train stop called "Sklozavodska".
It is important to note that Bucha was also the site of the Bucha massacre, which was the mass murder of Ukrainian civilians and prisoners of war by the Russian Armed Forces during the fight for and occupation of the city of Bucha as part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to local authorities, 458 bodies have been recovered from the town, including 9 children under the age of 18. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights documented the unlawful killings, including summary executions, of at least 73 civilians in Bucha. Human Rights Watch documented the details of 16 apparently unlawful killings in Bucha, including nine summary executions and seven indiscriminate killings of civilians.
