Carabao can refer to two different things:

  1. Carabao Energy Drink: This is a Thai energy drink that was launched in 2002 by Carabao Tawandang Co Ltd. It is now Thailands second most popular energy drink and is the key brand of Carabao Tawandang in Thailand, with an estimated 21% market share. Carabao Energy Drink is also the title sponsor of the English Football League Cup, which is now known as the Carabao Cup.

  2. Carabao: This is the Philippine English term for the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). Carabaos are widely distributed in all the larger islands of the Philippines and are a major contributor to the Philippine agriculture. They provide meat and dairy products, hide, sustainable farming, and transportation in remote rural areas in the Philippines. Carabaos symbolize the Asian way of life and were introduced in the Philippines around 300 BC by Malay and Chinese settlers. In the rural areas, they are very valuable in agriculture. Their heavy build is well suited for the hard labor in the rice fields. They serve as “living tractors” that help farmers in plowing and harrowing the muddy rice paddies. Carabao hide was once used extensively to create a variety of products, including the armor of precolonial Philippine warriors. Carabao racing is also a widely popular sport among farmers and carabao enthusiasts in the Philippines.
