The haze in Florida is caused by smoke from wildfires in Quebec, Canada, south of the Hudson Bay, which has been blown into Florida by strong northerly winds from high pressure. The smoke contains small particles that can get inside of peoples lungs and cause irritation, which can be dangerous for certain people such as those with COPD, asthma, pregnant women, the elderly, babies, toddlers, children, and people with heart or lung disease. The air quality in some areas across the western Panhandle and lower central Florida may be dangerous for anyone sensitive to particle pollution, and those groups should stay inside as much as possible. Gradual improvements in air quality are expected by Wednesday morning.
